About Us

Legvold Farms is a family farm located in the Northfield Minnesota area.  We proudly raise corn and soybeans on both owned land and leased land from our partners.  The relationships we create with our partners is built on strong communication and a mutual interest in building soil health over time.  The original Legvold's came from Norway and have been farming in Minnesota since 1887.  Fra Norge 1887!

David Legvold

Farmer, Innovator, Advocate

Graduate of Minnesota State University Mankato, BA Degree in Education

Graduate of the University of Minnesota, MA degree in Administration and Policy

 

Legvold has farmed for 40 years in Southern Dakota County using restorative farming practices.  Legvold has done numerous presentations on water quality in agriculture and soil health as well as being featured in several publications.  His farm is a Minnesota Agricultural Water Quality Certified operation.  Legvold was named by Governor Dayton as one of three Minnesota Water Heroes.

 

Legvold Farms has been the site of several conferences including the 2016 Conservation Technology Information Center (CTIC) national tour, the International Drainage Symposium tour,  Minnesota Buffer Legislation Symposium with Governor Dayton and staff.  Legvold was named one of five 4R Nutrient Stewardship Advocates in the U.S. by the National Fertilizer Institute.

Mark Legvold

Farmer, USAF Veteran, Advocate, Leadership Trainer

Mark follows in his Father and Grandfather's footsteps, growing up on the farm and boomeranging back after some education and beginning a career off the farm.  In 1990 he left Northfield for the United States Air Force, serving actively for 5 years in Oklahoma and Alaska.  In 1995 he returned to Minnesota, joined the MN Air National Guard, and completed his teaching license from Hamline University.  After beginning teaching in St. Paul, he moved his family back to Northfield where he and his Wife Lisa currently live, adjacent to the Legvold Homestead.  They have 6 adult children and 3 grandchildren.  Mark left public education and began serving militarily full-time in 2007, continuing to farm with David throughout his career.  He retired from the Air Force in 2023 - a 33-year career!  Mark is the Lead Consultant and CEO of Roots to Sky Consulting, LLC; a firm specializing in leadership development and building positive organizational culture.  Agriculturally, Mark has led the integration of cover-cropping into the operations of Legvold Farms, adding to the efforts to build soil health and improve water quality.  Mark is a strong voice for environmentally sustainable agriculture, speaking publicly on the topic and advocating directly with members of Congress for a better balance between food production and the sustainability of the environment.
